Kendall SC offers a special training program specifically designed for young players - ages U6 to U8 - that stresses the development of foundational technical skills with the objective of preparing them for eventual integration into the competitive program at the U9 level.
The Cadet Training Program, which runs from August to May every seasonal year, includes two skills training sessions per week of approximately one-hour run by licensed instructors, a third session that combines technical training with in-house scrimmages among the program members, and participation in one or more recreational leagues during the course of the seasonal year.
Cadet Training Curriculum
The training curriculum of the Cadet Training program is modeled after the Initial Development Stage (Ages 5-8) of the U.S. Soccer Curriculum, which was developed by Dr. Javier Perez, who coached for 6 years in the Development Center at Real Madrid C.F. and at the Spanish FA as part of the management team for the Master License for senior coaches.
At this young age children do not have the same capacity as adults to analyze the environment. They explore and have an egocentric conception of the world. Children are still gathering the experience necessary to interact with their surroundings and with others. Also, empathy and the capacity to consider the thoughts and feelings of others is very low. In order to help children build their own experience, many exercises will be individual (e.g. each player will have a ball). The tactical component of the game will be reduced to small-sided games with basic explanations about space distribution. Training sessions will be treated more as physical education than specifically as soccer training. Below are general outlines of the season plans for the U6-U8 ages from the U.S. Soccer curriculum.
